Downtown is a thriving and popular area of Austin. It’s an area that is most recognized as a prominent feature of our beloved city. Downtown is composed of our state capitol building, various banks and office buildings, restaurants, music venues and just about everything else in between. When you think of downtown you may picture one of two things, historic office buildings and the new and modern condos. While we have had a large growth of newer condos, downtown Austin has quite a bit to offer in the way of housing variety. Historic bungalow homes, updated and recently built homes, historic condos, mid century homes and apartments, as well as the modern urban condo.

Downtown Austin Condos and Lofts
The condo, loft and high rise explosion has hit Austin and there are a variety of buildings with various features being built and developed each year. Various buildings provide dining and shopping in the first floor. Part of the “master plan” with many of these buildings was to provide grocery options in the buildings giving them the “shop around the corner” feel. Several buildings also offer concierge services featuring services such as shopping, dry cleaning, dog walking and a variety of other services.
Downtown Austin Historical Homes
Despite the growth of downtown condos, Austin is still known for the hot historical homes and bungalows nestled amongst the high rises and music venues. Many of these homes retain their historic feel while providing some of the updated and modern qualities home owners today come to expect. Homes vary in sizes and prices, but many hold the charm that make the area great. Several of the homes have experienced a face lift over the years, bringing them into the modern day. One of my favorite historical buildings happens to be a downtown condo, The Brown Building.

Downtown Austin Entertainment and Dining
Downtown Austin is a hot and thriving venue for a huge variety of entertainment and dining. From the established pub around the corner featuring a favorite local musician to the new and trendy bistro down the street. Dining options include everything from Cajun to Mexican to seafood and steak, many have a home style feel or an eclectic urban twist.
Austin has a long tradition of hosting festivals, races and street vendor affairs in its downtown. Each weekend you can usually shop the local farmer’s market at Republic Square hit a festival showcasing local art and food or catch a race of some sort to benefit a local charity. The events and variety is never ending.
