Hemphill Park is a central Austin neighborhood between Hyde Park and The University of Texas. Most people quickly identify this community as the neighborhood right by the “drag” or Guadalupe. Located on the east side of Guadalupe near 32nd street, Hemphill Park is a great neighborhood for those that want to be near the University area and downtown.
Hemphill Park is one of my absolutely favorite central Austin neighborhoods! I have spent many afternoons walking this area soaking in the eclectic architecture and the unique layout of the neighborhood. The area was originally established in the early 1900’s for professors and those working for the University. As a result many of the homes are a great reflection of that era and include a variety of styles from the times. From bungalow homes with large front patios and wide steps to stucco two stories that reflect the glamor of California architecture to brick cottage style homes that make you feel like you are in a fairy tale. Several homes have been modified to fit today’s standards or added on, but many remain closer to their original plans as many in this area were considered large when they were built many years ago.
