New Barton Creek Farmers Market in North Austin

Share

Sunday I got a chance to go check out the new Barton Creek Farmer’s Market at Highland Mall in North Austin. Many have come to know and love the Barton Creek Farmer’s Market in South Austin at the Barton Creek Mall, that one is held each Saturday. But for those that live in north Austin or can’t go to the farmer’s market on Saturday, you now have a Sunday option in north Austin.

The farmer’s market will be held each Sunday from 10am to 2pm at Highland Mall on Airport Blvd. http://www.bartoncreekfarmersmarket.org/

There was a great turnout for the grand opening. They had a bouncy house for the kids, face painting and a petting zoo. And live music in a tent with chairs set up for shoppers to sit for a bit and take a rest in between browsing and buying.

Favorite Spots at the Farmer’s Market

Some of my favorite spots were Johnson’s Backyard Farm, the “plant lady” from Ramsay’s Garden,┬áChrstine’s Bakery, Casa Brasil Coffee and this gentleman that sold the most unique bird feeders!

* Johnson’s Backyard Farms is always one of my favorite vendors, they always have a big variety and their produce is quality, I don’t feel like I have to pick through their produce to find the good stuff.

* This was my first time having a goody from Chrstine’s Bakery. I snagged some of my friends croissant and it was delicious! One of the best I’ve had here in Austin.

* Casa Brasil has been a favorite of mine for a while, I first found them at Central Market and was glad to see them making the farmer’s market circuit.

* The bird feeders were really cool – he makes them from a combination of full sized plates and bowls. He travels to various fairs and markets so you just have to catch him when he’s around.

Other hot spots were Ramsey’s Garden who is often at other farmer’s markets, this time around they had Meyer’s lemon trees that looked gorgeous! Mill-King Dairy was on hand with fresh cheese curds for sample. They provide low temp non homogenized milk and it’s delicious!

There were several other grass fed beef and cheese vendors, a vendor selling granola that was delicious and someone selling their hand crafted crochet scarves sweaters etc.

There was quite a bit needless to say, something for just about anyone. I can’t wait to make this one a regular as it’s very convenient to me. I found it easy to maneuver and park and very convenient to access. I didn’t get to pick up any fresh eggs as I spaced out a bit on that – but next time I’ll be sure to check that out! Also if you forget your cash there is an ATM machine, if you forget breakfast Tacodeli was on hand but they ran out pretty early, hopefully they’ll have a backup next time.

  1. the Mill King Milk is not homogenized but is low temp pasteurized. It is not legal to sell raw milk at a store or farmers market in TX. Misinformation can cause trouble for this vendor.
Else wise great review. It is nice to have a new choice of market!
