Crestview is a north Austin neighborhood that reflects similar characteristics as it’s bordering neighborhoods of Allandale and Brentwood. It’s located between Anderson and Koening Roads and between Lamar and Burnet Roads Because of Austin’s expansion this is a very centralized neighborhood to many attractions including downtown Austin, the University, Town Lake and more. In addition it’s a hop skip and jump to north attractions like The Domain, The Arboretum and more. Crestview was developed in the early 1950’s as a small suburban type community. As you explore Crestview you’ll see many signs of the mid century Austin culture and architecture. Many of the homes are indicative of the mid century styles of the times, some of which run on a the small side and therefore include add ons to accomodate today’s home owner. Some homes have been removed and owners have built on their lots and many homes have simply gone through various updates. There are still many homes that provide opportunities for home owners to put their own current stamps of design on it.
Crestview Shopping and Dining
Many people love this area because of it’s access to Burnet Roads vintage shopping, local pubs and thrift shops. Lamar is a great spot for local dining, thirft shops and shops that have the unique and different. In addition the light rail runs relatively close to Crestview which many love. This area has a strong vintage vibe that many find is reflected in both the residential and commercial aspects of Crestview. One really neat commercial aspect in Crestview is the neighborhood deli, pharmacy and grocery area. The commercial shopping center was established in 1953 to include spots that the average resident needed on a daily life, like a grocery store and pharmacy. It’s still around today and on any given day you can see residents and employees from the area enjoying their lunch, taking a break from the day in the shaded gazebo area or doing some quick shopping. It’s very charming and adds so much to this neighborhood.

As neighborhoods like Allandale and Rosedalle become increasingly expensive, Crestview shines as a more affordable community especially for those seeking mid century homes. Many like the walkability factor, the fact it has some parks and playgrounds that are easily accessible, and that overall it’s fairly easy to get to many hot spots around Austin. The mid century architecture is increasingly popular amongst many that currently live in Austin or come here from other areas, but if that’s not your style there are plenty of homes that reflect more of the 50’s bungalow style and have been updated to fit in with today’s standards of living.
